Understanding the dynamics between BTS and their fans "ARMY" is important for comprehending the backstory and meaning of Map Of The Soul: Persona. It's a reflection of BTS' integrity to their career and appreciation for their fans. During BTS' global press conference, vocalist Jin explained, “This album is about enjoying and having fun with the fans. So our goal would be to enjoy our time together with our fans.”

Intro: Persona is an instrospective hip hop track with strong beats and electric guitar chords. Here, leader and rapper RM discusses discovering different sides of one's character. BTS' RM wrote lyrics that look deep into his worth, goals, fears, and personality. While the BTS Love Yourself albums influences listeners to love themselves, Map Of The Soul delves deeper into "who" we are: "Who am I,” // a question that I’ve been asking myself for my whole life // A question that I will probably never be able to find the right answer for."  Taking inspiration from Psychologist Carl Jung's theories, the lyrics are about understanding that a label doesn't define the you that's different from yesterday (growth), and who you'll be in the future (change due to growth).

"A Poem for Small Things," aka Boy With Luv is a bubbly pop track featuring Halsey. It captures the group's gratitude towards fans: flying high up in that sky // with the two wings that you gave me then." During their press conference, rapper SUGA explained, "'Boy With Luv’ is about how true strength and love comes from finding joy in the small things in life. We started from something really small, and now we are here in front of all of you, so we thought, what is the strength or force that brought us here? And that naturally led us to thinking about where and how we began.”

Next is Mikrokosmos, a sparkling pop ballad. BTS' lyrics often refer to the cosmos as metaphors, describing the unique life within people. Mikrokosmos continues that metaphor to mean everybody contains their own galaxy: "Lights of people // Each one of them is precious // In a // dark night, Like stars, Don’t disappear // because you are one great existence."  Rapper JHOPE said, "The song is about giving courage and comfort to those people by talking about this warm attention and praise for all of these people.”

Make It Right is a pop track backed by trap beats with a relaxed alt-R&B, hip hop vibe. “[Ed Sheeran] contacted us and said that he made a song for us, and of course we wanted to work with him, so that’s how the collaboration started and we’re so happy that it led to this great song,” JHOPE explained at the press conference. “The song has a very soft but elegant feeling and RM’s lyrics match it perfectly to create a song with charmingly delicate vocals.”

Hip hop meets R&B on HOME. With fast raps and sultry vocals, HOME is captivating with its danceable groove. There's an intricate flow to the rythm and tempo that sets HOME apart as they sing, "At the fork of the road, I keep thinking of you // who recognized me who had nothing // I was able to smile thinking of you." HOME is meant to convey thanks to ARMY for sticking with them and describing the fans as the group's "home." Vocalist Jeon Jungkook said, “I can’t emphasize enough on the importance of ARMY to us. It’s always great to hear from our fans all over the world that our music changed their lives or our contents made them happier. We think this speaks to the growing power of music and puts even more responsibilities on our shoulders.”

Jaimais Vu captures the feeling of being both hopeful and hopeless. It's a dramatic and emotional ballad that emotes the anxiety of life: "Please give me a remedy, a melody // The memory that will remain only in me // If I stop at this point // if I turn it off, will everything be at ease?" In his VLive, RM described the lyric's meaning and explained, “I thought about a game in which if you die then you lose your belongings like your equipment and have to start over again. I tried to include the sense of loss and emptiness that I felt when playing a game.”

The album's spit fire outro is Dionysus, a hard hitting alt-rock influenced hip hop track. They sing, "Born as a K-pop idol // Reborn as an artist // Art at this level is over-drinking." The members describe this song as “the joy and pain of creating something." The lyrics reflect the intoxicating, addictive nature of art by comparing it to the Greek god of wine, Dionysus.
